Database / Mail List Management Software

09:16am Feb 10, 2003 PST (#1 of 13)

I'd like to know how other agencies deal with (snail) mail list management needed for a variety of reasons. The data base should list and sort in a number of way. For example: Media list, by city, by type, by sales rep, by editor(s)... Clients & Profits does not really support that component of project/media management. We have used ACT but they no longer support MAC systems!!

Any ideas or software suggestions would be appreciated.

We use an Access database and print our labels for snail mail using mail merge in Microsoft Word.

We use GoldMine as we are both a PC (for account/management side) and Mac (for graphics/design) side shop. GoldMine has a number of great features from group Emails to lots of different sorts/categories/groupings and more. Since the Mac users doing need lists or access to all of the sales contact information, this works pretty well.

I recently researched the *heck* out of this, and ran down a lot of dead-ends. Sounds like your looking for a campaign-management system, also called a "Marketing Automation System". BlueMartini and e.Piphany are typical offerings, the only problem is that their price starts in the six-figure range. Almost everything I found was priced like this.

Except... A package called MarketingPilot. Under $1K per seat. Designed to coordinate and keep straight all your different selects, demographics, etc for overland lists, email lists, print ads, broadcast, whatever. And even better - lets you input RESULTS so you can learn how your campaings are performing and compute ROI's.

I wish C&P had this functionality - but it doesn't. I highly recommend MarketingPilot, at www.marketingpilot.com

FileMaker Pro (www.filemaker.com) is the only way to go, we think. Simple to use. Cross-platform. Web-enabled. We use it for our intranet server as well.

MS Access doesn't support Macs and is harder to use than it should be. MS FoxPro is no longer available on the Mac side either since Microsoft bought out a wonderful little software company in Ohio. No one on this list would seriously consider Raining Data's Omnis, would we? Fourth Dimension (www.4d.com) is another one... more difficult than others.

Thanks for your reply..is this a Mac product? We haven't been able to find any info on it. I think we're going to go with File maker Pro but I am interested in the Now software.

We're Mac and had the same problem with ACT not supporting Macs. We switched to NOW Contact as well. Do you have a problem using 'Keywords"???

NOW Software no longer exists. We used to use it on a few machines, but when NOW sold off the product or went out of business the upgrade was going to cost us too much for what it was doing.

NOW Contact is now a product of Power On Software... www.poweronsoftware.com
