Media Department Staffing

08:55am Feb 10, 2003 PST (#1 of 4)

I am trying to find out how other agencies staff their media departments. We are a heavy broadcast agency. We currently have on staff 3 full time buyers (2 in house 1 satellite), 1 part-time buyer, 2 media planners. The media billing is forwarded to accounting personnel by the planners so invoices can be generated and sent out to the clients. The request is being made to hire a full-time planning assistant. Please advise as to how other agencies our size staff their media department. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Can you be more specific about your volume? How many clients per month do you place media for? How many markets? etc.

Compensation for Media Buyers

Question for agencies that include a Media Department... What kind of compensation structure do you have for Media Buyers? Salary range for a second level Media Negotiator/Buyer? We currently have two full-time in the Media Department. One senior buyer, then a second level person handling smaller market buys. We're analyzing that second level person's pay structure. Thanks for any input on salary ranges at your agencies for such a position.
