Hi!
Do any of you use software to track your printer costs (especially color prints)? If so, what software do you use?

Our color copiers are set up to be able to send print jobs directly from a computer to the printer, with a job number required. Every few days a report is printed from the color copier, tallied by job on a Word table set up, then entered into C&P as internal charges by job. We also book the costs of the color copier paper and color toners to a Cost of Revenue account. This is a bit cumbersome, but does the job.

Thanks Marianne for responding. What print tracking software do you use? Does it also work with Macintosh?

Hi Barry,
We were using MacLaser Biller software to track color outputs, which works great except that it won't run on OS 10.2. They're supposedly working on a new version, but I don't know when it will be ready.
It forces people to put in a size and a job number before they can print. I think their website is maclaserbiller.com or just search for MacLaser Biller.
Good luck!

Marianne,
Thanks for the feedback! This is what I want to do. So, is this done with your printer software or through a separate software package? If you do this by your printer software, what kind of color printers do you have (i.e. manufacturer)?
Thanks again,
Barry

Marianne,
How are you set up to require a job #? Is it through software based in the computer or in the printer. I would be interested in finding out more about your process.
Thanks,

We do the same thing. Does anybody know if there is any software that does this?

Our color copier has the capability of printing out the job log with job number, number of pages, and from whom its printed from. We print the log sheet out on a daily basis and keep the hard copy just in case the spooling goes bad and wipes out the record that's in the copier's computer (this happened a few times). Then once a week, we print out the record using the Excel for billing.
We have a Canon CLC 1120 with a ColorPass-Z40e, Fiery Controller (computer).
Hope this helps.

I'm responding in addition to Marianne. We have Fiery controllers for both our color copier/printers and we are using the Fiery Spooler software to log our copies. We have a Ricoh Aficio 6513 color copier with a E-710 Fiery controller (Command Work Station) and a Ricoh 5106 with a Fiery XJBP100 controller (Fiery Spooler). There is a place to log your job when printing but it isn't required. If they didn't log their job, the color copy log itself does show who printed and what document was printed so you can usually do some investigation and get the job#. Hope this helps.

The Fiery is the key to making this work. They all will print the logs as described. You can easily get the job number in the log simply by requiring everyone to use the Job Number in the name of the Quark file (for example
