How do you guys figure out commission for your sales staff? What reports do you use? How do you pull everything billed in a particular month even when the job has been ongoing for several months?
Thanks

We do not have a sales staff. The creative director is the president and sales.

We no longer have a sales staff that is paid with commission as one of our principals is responsible for new business. When we did have a salesman and in other companies I work for, I make copies of all incoming checks and determine the commission due (such as 10% of fees billed on the invoice the check is paying) and file those check copies in the current payroll file. Every pay period I pay what is due to the sales staff that are not on draws and accrue on an excel spreadsheet for those that are on draws. We only pay our commissioned staff when we get paid, so it doesn't make a difference how long the job goes on for.

We have tried sales commissions, but we find that a good salary and stringent sales goals are best. We set percentages for possible = reduction if goals are not met. To date, nobody has had a decrease in pay.
Good luck.
