T1 line expense

12:03pm Sep 16, 2002 PST (#1 of 12)

Can anyone provide current cost information for internet provider T1 line access? I want to make sure our current rate is competitive. This would be for other than the monthly line charge by the telephone company.

We use Stargate here in Pittsburgh. Our rate depends upon the bandwith that we choose. Our monthly T1 rate is $497: $350 for the lowest bandwith of 256K and another $147 for telephone charges.

Our monthly T-1 cost is $549 with Winstar/IDT. I hope this helps.

Is it a Point-to-point T1 or a frame relay? There can be a big price difference between the two (at least in Arkansas).

Full T1 $589 with a three year contract, 2 year is $619, 1 year is $639. Frac at 768K is $499, $529, $549. Frac at 384K is $459, $349 and 519.

Three year includes free install, the installs on the other packages vary from 350 to 650. All include the router and they will manage it for you. A subnet of 6 IP addresses is about 20 bucks a month.

I also would be interested in learning what other companies are paying for T1 service. Our service charge per month for 24 lines (phone/internet access) is $ 1,200.00

We are in San Diego and pay $850/mo. for a full T1 (no phone service) with internet access for as many computers as we want up to the limit of our subnet (255 computers). This price includes the phone line charge. They also provide as many fixed IP addresses as we need, the rest use NAT (network address translation - so that multiple computers can share the same IP address). We own our router. We use NetHere as our provider (www.nethere.com).

After reading all the responses, I'm figuring out we pay way too much. I've got our production manager out there right now researching alternative providers. I never would have thought about this, unless I got this C&P message...(our former IT guy set us up - I assumed he price shopped, but guess not!) C&P User group may have just saved me $800/month!

Thanks to all of you who responded to my T1 line cost query. We pay Corecomm $579 (including tax) for our internet access, and $226/month for the line via AT&T for total of $805/month. I'm not sure if there are any limitations, but this was a 5-year agreement that will expire in the next 12 months. Not sure if new negotiated rates will be higher or lower.
